The Post

UWCSEA has vacancies for August 2019 at its East Campus for a Teacher of Primary School (Ages 4 – 11). A degree and professional teaching qualification is essential.

Person specification

  • A good degree and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
  • Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service
  • Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners

The following would be an advantage:

  • Knowledge and experience of international curricula, their delivery and assessment
  • Experience with the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop model
  • Knowledge of and experience with Reggio Emilia inspired approaches
  • Experience with a child centred, play based approach
  • Experience teaching students who are English Language Learners

Main Responsibilities

  • To plan and supervise 6-8 extra curricular activities over the course of a year and promote, support and raise awareness of local and global concerns.
  • To support school policies and work cooperatively with Grade Heads, Vice-Principals and the Principal, to achieve set goals and be a role model for students at all times and take an active part in all professional learning sessions with the aim of extending professional expertise.
  • In terms of personal actions and work with and help to develop Teaching Assistants and offer insight to the team in areas of curriculum specialism.
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with parents via a range of communication channels and keep a child centred digital portfolio for each child containing examples of teacher and child selected work and contribute to planning and delivering special events.
  • To work as a member of a grade team, planning lessons collaboratively and sharing resources and lead field trips in Singapore and beyond and/or assist in their organization.
  • To use technology within the classroom effectively and be prepared to upgrade and extend personal skills and to keep assessment records updated regularly with appropriate anecdotal comments.
  • To be aware of the child's individual needs and to differentiate learning accordingly, seeking support when appropriate.
  • Ensure the learning environment is stimulating and provides opportunities for all learners to experience success and to showcase this with regularly changing displays (celebrations of learning) within and beyond the classroom.
