About West Thornton Primary Academy

Serving around 600 pupils, West Thornton Primary Academy is a co-educational primary school in Croydon, South London. Founded in 1896, the school provides places for children aged 4-11 and became an academy in 2011. 

West Thornton Primary Academy is part of The Synaptic Trust, a multi-academy trust founded in 2013. The trust is responsible for the running of six local schools at mainly primary level. Owing to its location, West Thornton Primary Academy has a large and diverse catchment area.

The school encourages pupils to be self-motivated in their learning. It strives to offer an interesting and creative curriculum relevant to the local area and the needs and interests of pupils. Lessons are designed to offer a level of choice and responsibility to children. Teachers take a great deal of pride in the quality of the feedback that students and parents receive, ensuring each child is clear about where they are academically, and where they need to be.
