Classroom Teachers (Temporary)

From September 2020, we have two posts available for Class Teachers who have the ability to deliver excellent teaching and learning to girls in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 at WGHS Junior School. 

Candidates should be excellent classroom practitioners, able to relate well to children and have the ability to teach to a high standard in a number of subjects and year groups.  Applicants should have the ability to work independently and flexibly using their own initiative and be excellent team members.  A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme is an essential. 

Applications are equally welcome from newly qualified teachers (for whom statutory induction would be provided) or from more experienced applicants. Both posts are full time and temporary for one academic year in the first instance.

Salary is MPS/UPS. The Teachers’ Pension Scheme is also applicable.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, the successful candidates will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

About Wakefield Girls' High School - (Junior Girls)

Wakefield Girls’ High School Junior School is an independent all-girls mainstream primary school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, that caters for children aged four to 11. 

The Junior School opened in 1881 for children under five. In 1967, the school was moved to St John’s House, a large Georgian structure. The school is now part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, comprised of WGHS Senior and Junior schools, along with nearby Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Junior School.

Wakefield Girls’ High School Junior School aims to offer academic inspiration in a supportive environment and help develop each student’s knowledge, skills and learning abilities. The primary school puts no limitations on the girls and makes sure their learning environment is free from gender stereotypes and boundaries. Teachers promote kindness, public spirit, empathy and consideration. 

The schools encourages pupils to explore, investigate, share ideas and work together to create a fun, educational experience. This is coupled with educational visits and outdoor activities. Sports is an important aspect of the school, with plenty on offer, as well as music and drama. The school is represented by pupils in netball, hockey, swimming, tennis and athletics, and there are twice-weekly music lessons. Taster lessons are available for girls who want to take up an instrument permanently. Girls have the choice of 55 clubs and activities, which help to supplement their learning.
