Ark is a fast-growing education charity committed to running outstanding non-selective schools. Ark is currently a network of 35 schools based in London, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Hastings. 

We are now seeking a Clerk to the Local Governing Bodies for five of our schools in Birmingham. This will involve clerking meetings in the afternoons and evenings and attendance at a termly Clerks Update meeting in Birmingham.

Our Clerks ensure Ark schools benefit from centralised and co-ordinated clerking support, and work with the Regional Governance Officer in meeting the overall governance needs of this area.

The post holders will be expected to attend all governance and committee meetings to take minutes, as well as to undertake administration and other tasks in order to ensure that the Ark Governance team provides an exemplary service to its Birmingham schools.  Additional duties will include clerking governors’ reviews (e.g. of exclusions and complaints) from time to time.

We are seeking an experienced clerk, but will provide full training and opportunities for development for the right candidate.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be experienced in taking minutes, preferably in a school governance or corporate environment
  • Be able to write clearly, accurately and concisely
  • Be highly organised and have a flexible approach to work, with the ability to work remotely
  • Act as a two-way conduit between the Ark central team and individual academy governing bodies.
  • Share Ark’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for underprivileged children.

Engagement: Approximately 375 hours a year in term time; any additional hours will be paid at the same rate.
Location: Home-based, with clerking at academies and occasional central office meetings and support.
