Job overview

The School:

North London Grammar School (NLGS) is an ‘Outstanding’ school in all categories (Ofsted, 2018). NLGS is a modern independent grammar school situated in Hendon with state-of-the-art facilities where interactive TV Learning Boards are available in every classroom. Since September 2019, with North London Prep School (NLPS), we have expanded, with the same principles, to provide a safe, stimulating learning environment for 7 to 11-year-olds within small classes where individual attention and interactive activities are more achievable.

The Post

North London Grammar School (NLGS) is an extraordinary school, sitting in Colindale, Hendon, Barnet.

We are seeking a remarkable and visionary person to join our team. You will be experienced and well qualified, but most importantly, you will have our students’ aspirations and welfare at the heart of your vision. We are seeking someone who values kindness and generosity, who can build transformational relationships and who wants to make a difference to every individual, as an individual.

The key functions of the role are:

- to cover lessons for teaching staff in their absence.

- to assist the Deputy Head in Primary and the Business Manager in secretarial works

If there are multiple absences for the same period of the lesson, and if the Cover Supervisor is busy covering the lessons, he/she needs to arrange a teacher internally among the current teaching staff. When not covering lessons the Cover Supervisor will be assisting the concerned Deputy Head in primary mainly and the Business Manager in secretarial works.

NLGS is at a very exciting time in its development, with innovation, growth and the continued development of first-class facilities at the heart of our plans. We welcome your interest in being part of our continuing journey.

NLGS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

Values and vision

North London Grammar School’s motto is ‘Bonitas, Scientia, Disciplina’ which is Latin for ‘Goodness, Knowledge, and Instruction’. These are the three pillars on which the school is based and they represent its aspirations for each and every one of its students. The school believes every child has a unique ability and it will help them to make the most of it. At the same time, it wants to teach tolerance, understanding, and respect for every person.

The secondary school aims to give students knowledge of the world around them, but more importantly give them the tools to find knowledge themselves. Logic, rationality, and critical thinking are central to its philosophy. It exists to provide teaching and training so that students can gain knowledge and achieve excellence, and it believes this process includes learning discipline, not just obeying the rules, but also self-discipline: knowing how to conduct yourself, stay focused, and ask questions.
