Job overview

Cover Supervisor

Required as soon as possible. Are you able to provide stability and continuity for students whose lessons are affected through short-term teaching staff absence?  You will provide short term cover for absent teaching staff, allocating pre-prepared work, keeping students on-task and managing the behaviour of students during class.  The role does not involve planning, preparing, delivering lessons or assessing and reporting on the development progress and attainment of students.  Full training will be provided.   You will need to enjoy working with young people, have good ICT skills and the ability to communicate well.

31 hours per week, term time only plus 5 training days.

The salary will be APT&C Grade D (SCP 4 – 6 £18,933 - £19,698 pro rata) depending on experience and service for NYCC. This equates to an actual salary £13,568 - £14,177 per annum.  Holidays will not be allowed during term time, unless under exceptional and approved circumstances.

Selection Process:

Candidates will appreciate that, at this time, it is not possible to run our recruitment processes as we would under normal circumstances.  If candidates want to get a flavour of our school – please visit our website, though aspects of our information are under revision, most particularly around the curriculum.  We would also direct you to our Facebook page, Twitter account and our new Facebook off-shoot for this period of school closure ‘Be More Thirsk’.  We also have a nascent YouTube channel you may wish to look at.

We will conduct interviews by Microsoft Teams.  Prior to the interview, you will be sent some tasks to prepare and submit back to us prior to interview.  A discussion will then take place around the tasks you have undertaken during the interview process.

Our ambitious school is based in the easily accessible market town of Thirsk which lies very close to the A1(M), A19 and mainline rail links, between two beautiful National Parks.

Closing Date:   9 am on Thursday, 13th May 2021

Interviews will take place on Tuesday, 18th May 2021

Completed applications should be sent to diane.atkinson@thirskschool.org

Please complete the school application form, not a TES form.

Ofsted report

“Students thrive in the aspirational, friendly, safe and caring atmosphere. As a result, all achieve well and make good progress from their average starting points on entry. From the last inspection until 2011, students’ attainment rose steadily. Most teaching is good and some is outstanding. Such teaching is interesting, intriguing and captivating. In the most effective lessons, teachers’ strong subject knowledge, perceptive questioning and feedback builds students’ knowledge, understanding and skills well. Students behave well, attend regularly and display very good attitudes to learning. They, their parents and staff report positively about behaviour across school.”
