Job overview
Birmingham Ormiston Academy is a 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts. The academy opened in September 2011 and has over 1000 students. BOA is 100% selective, based on aptitude for the arts, and is unique in its admissions criteria.
All BOA students are selected through aptitude in their chosen arts specialism and will follow either a Creative (Visual Art and Design, Technical Theatre Arts), Digital (Broadcast, Games Design and New Media) or Performing Arts (Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre, Music) pathway. Key Stage 4 students take a full suite of GCSEs alongside their pathway qualifications and Post-16 students have the opportunity to enrich their study programme with one or two additional A-levels.
We are seeking to appoint an exciting, innovative, and well-organised middle leader with a strong record of outstanding teaching to lead our Visual Art and Design specialist BTEC pathway, and our GCSE/A-Level Art options.
This is a unique opportunity to develop, plan and lead the BTEC Visual Art and Design Pathways at KS4 and Post-16. Your focus will be on ensuring the courses are operating at the cutting edge of current art and design practice, that we are further developing our connections and partnerships with industry, that we are showcasing student work at the highest level, and that we maintain our reputation for excellence in this important sector of the arts.
In addition, you will lead GCSE and A-Level options in Art and Design for students studying on our performing arts and digital arts pathways who chose Art as an additional option subject.
You will have high expectations, be able to manage colleagues and work effectively as part of a team. You will be prepared to get fully involved in the life of our busy and vibrant academy. You will subscribe to the view that every student is capable of achieving the highest grades with the right support and guidance, and will be prepared to work tirelessly to give every student the best chance of success.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world class academy. If you share the academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.
To formally apply, you must complete the academy application form together with a letter of application in support of your suitability for the role. This should be no more than 2 sides of A4 and should detail how your knowledge, skills and experience will make you a suitable candidate. You should also submit a CV. Completed applications should be sent to Rhiannon Sharp at recruitment@boa-academy.co.uk.
Birmingham Ormiston Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
