Database Manager: Latifa School for Girls and Rashid School for Boys  

The database manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, guidance and support regarding the use of the Double First ‘Engage’ Management Information System.  Experience of other school systems would also be very welcome.  He or she must ensure the schools are making maximum use of the functionality available and achieving full benefit from the investment in the MIS. 

 Key Accountabilities  

• Give strategic guidance and support regarding the use of the schools’ information systems to senior school leaders at Latifa School for Girls and Rashid School for Boys. 

• Manage the MIS, its web and app interfaces, installing software updates as required 

• Identify all staff and which elements of Engage they require training on and address any areas where knowledge transfer has not been successful either through cascade training from colleagues or the arrangement of additional training 

• Troubleshoot and resolve all student, staff and parent MIS related issues 

• Proactively manage the system user accounts and security to ensure data integrity for the purpose of regulating access to the MIS and ensuring confidentiality of student records 

• Develop and create custom forms, reports or exports using various tools such as Stimulsoft and/or Excel, based the MIS program on requirements and goals 

• Secure the in the integrity of the school’s database through regular review, verification, and data cleanup, to assure accuracy and efficiency 

• Monitor support requests logged in the Double First Support Centre on behalf of the school and ensure issues are being responded to and resolved within appropriate timescales 

• Keep up to date with new developments and planned new features of the MIS and bring these to the senior management of the school in order that they can be considered for adoption 

• Establish and maintain professional relationships with MIS users in other schools to ensure best practices are being shared and applied in the school   

Essential Criteria  

• Excellent, current experience of developing and using school management software 

• Ability to troubleshoot desktop problems related to the student information system  

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with discretion of sensitive information 

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing  

• Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills, with careful attention to detail 

• A willingness to work in an exciting multi-cultural society and with a diverse team of colleagues 

• Ability to coordinate multiple resources to take projects to successful completion  

• A positive and enthusiastic approach to self-development  

• Good relationships with staff, students and parents 

• Outstanding references

Rashid School for Boys opened in 1986 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. We are a small, well funded school located in Nadd Al Shiba on the edge of Dubai and have outstanding facilities and a beautiful campus.The school is dedicated to the highest standards of excellence in the academic and social development of its students. Classes are small so that each student receives close personal attention.

The Students

The majority of students are UAE Nationals and most join the school at the age of three or four. Most students leave at the age of seventeen or eighteen and move to universities and colleges in the UAE and around the world.

The Curriculum

Most lessons are taught in English and the curriculum is developed from the UK National Curriculum. The school gives great importance to the teaching of Arabic language and Islamic Studies, and follows the Ministry of Education courses in these subjects. Arab history and culture are incorporated into the social studies courses. Grades 10 and 11 lead to United Kingdom General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations (GCSE). In Grades 12 and 13, all students are thoroughly prepared for university and college entry by one of two programmes: UK Advanced Level examinations are studied for entry to all UK universities and the best US universities. The High School Diploma course is specially designed for students going to other universities and colleges. Students take part in a wide range of activities throughout the year. These include camping, sailing, windsurfing, ice-skating, scuba-diving, and field trips to the UK plus many other opportunities.

The Faculty

The school has a well qualified and experienced teaching staff. The majority are UK graduates but we also have teachers from the USA, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Ireland, Jordan and Tunisia. The teachers are well supported by a large group of technicians, teaching support and administration staff.
