Job overview

Following the announcement that our long standing First Deputy Head will be retiring at the end of this academic year, a unique opportunity has arisen at Benenden for an ambitious, dynamic and highly capable person, with a good sense of humour, to apply for the position of Deputy Head in our thriving boarding school.  The successful candidate will have a strong track record of management or leadership within a boarding school environment and people are invited to apply for this position if they have a significant pastoral or academic management/leadership responsibility within their current role. The final job description will be tailored to their area of expertise in addition to the key responsibilities required of the post.

As Benenden looks towards its Centenary in 2023, this is a very exciting time to join the School and the new Deputy Head will be instrumental in both the day-to-day running of the School as well as its strategic development.

The post comes with generous benefits including accommodation.

Benenden is an extremely supportive and aspirational community in which to work.  The fact that it is a full boarding school means we can offer many opportunities and activities which other schools cannot: there is a family feel to the School and staff benefit from generous salaries, an excellent professional development programme and lively staff social life.  Other benefits include generous holidays, gym membership and use of the School grounds, tennis courts and swimming pool.

Benenden is one of the leading boarding schools in Britain. We were founded in 1923 and are situated in 250 acres of attractive parkland in Kent. There are 555 girls in the school, aged 11-18, with 187 of those in the Sixth Form. Benenden is at the forefront of girls’ education in the UK, with recent innovations including the Benenden Diploma, a bespoke curriculum for our youngest two year groups, and the Professional Skills Programme, teaching the Sixth Form skills for the workplace. We are an ambitious school, with recent developments including a state-of-the-art Science Centre and All-Weather Sports Pitch, and we are currently working to establish a new School Hall and Music School.
