Varndean School is an 11-16 school with around 1350 students, set in a picturesque south coast location in the vibrant and diverse city of Brighton and Hove. We are a Good (Ofsted 2017) and well-established school already, and we have made rapid progress over the past couple of years and have no intention of resting on our laurels. The potential here is immense and the successful applicant will have a key role in our vision to develop World Class Learning.
We are looking to appoint a Deputy Head of Learning & Progress to be part of the development of the SEMH provision to ensure that the individual needs of identified students are met. They will be able to:
- Deliver excellent learning opportunities to identified vulnerable students, including SEMH students, in order that they can access the mainstream classroom.
- Deliver a comprehensive package of intervention strategies including specialist literacy and numeracy teaching, and appropriate reading schemes.
- Implement a clear and structured needs-based curriculum for each child, in order to provide clear goals to ease reintegration into the main body of the school.
- Strategically contribute to continuous improvement of the teaching of SEMH students, in order to ensure competent and forward-thinking management of inclusive teaching.
