Deputy Head

Founded in 1950, Fairstead House is a co-educational day school that occupies a large Victorian house and grounds in the centre of Newmarket. It is within easy reach of Cambridge, Ely, and Bury St Edmunds, with excellent access from the A14, A11 and A142. Pupils are drawn largely from the town and the surrounding villages in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The School consists of two sections: the Nursery, for children aged three months to four years, and the Main School, sub-divided into the Pre-Prep (Reception, Years 1–2) and the Prep (Years 3–6) for pupils aged between four and 11 years.

Fairstead House aims to excite each child’s boundless sense of wonder, capture their natural enthusiasm, and nurture and celebrate each child’s individual talents within a family environment in which children are encouraged, challenged, and enthused. Such an ethos stimulates children to develop self-confidence and a lifelong love of learning whilst also promoting their emotional and social wellbeing and other life skills.

The Fairstead House School Trust, a registered charity with a Board of Governors, has recently reached an agreement on a strategic partnership with the Governing Body of King’s Ely by the merger of their respective charities. The new, single Governing Body is now seeking an inspiring and highly skilled educationalist to build on Fairstead House’s existing success and to develop the exciting opportunities provided by the shared aims of this new partnership.

The Deputy Head will report to the Head. The post holder will have responsibility for the School’s academic delivery, including curriculum mapping and all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, they will work alongside the Head in leading the strategic direction of Fairstead House. Showing commitment and a relentless drive for excellence, creativity and continuous improvement in practice, they will have the ability to inspire trust and to motivate others through a clearly communicated vision.
