Job overview

If you are an exceptional and committed UK-qualified Primary school leader, looking for a new senior leadership challenge in one of the most unique cities in the world, then read on.

Set in the centre of Tokyo, close to the Imperial Palace and the British Embassy, Phoenix House offers a British prep-school education based on the National Curriculum of England, for international pupils aged 5 to 11. Phoenix House is the official feeder school for Rugby School Japan.

If you are looking for a school where you can work hard to ensure every pupil is inspired and challenged, and lead a team of colleagues who show exceedingly high levels of commitment to the field of education, then we are looking to hear from you! We seek experienced or aspiring senior leaders who are keen to go above and beyond, and who understand and appreciate the demands of independent schooling, including the impact of marketing, admissions and business aspects on school and leadership life.

Phoenix House teachers work with some of the most high achieving and engaged pupils in the region, who in turn enjoy high levels of parental support and encouragement. These factors combine to create an exciting working and learning environment, with wide open doors of opportunity for both pupils and teachers.

Our core mission at Phoenix House is to grow confident, articulate young people, through a curriculum that challenges, and a co-curricular programme that builds character and expertise. Each Phoenix takes entrance exams to Rugby School Japan, or other leading senior schools, during Year 5 and Year 6.

Building confidence and enriching the whole school community, our houses - Oak, Rothesay, Snowdon, and Windsor, bring the arts, culture and sports to the heart of Phoenix House. Annual residential visits for all year groups to North Peak, our outdoor enrichment centre in Hokkaido, enliven the curriculum and deepen self confidence through a boarding school experience.

If you feel excited by the opportunity to lead in this young, dynamic school then we encourage early application. Teachers with experience in, and an understanding of UK independent schools, are strongly encouraged to apply. Early applications are also encouraged.

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 31st January, 2023.

Please include a full application letter addressed to Head of School, Ms. Claire Fletcher.
