About Bell Lane Primary School

Bell Lane is characterised by the rich cultural and ethnic mix of its intake. Almost 400 pupils and over forty teaching and non-teaching staff represent all five continents and about 50 different languages are spoken.

Visitors and helpers remark on the excellent attitude of our pupils to work, the respect between members of the school community and the ease with which newcomers are integrated, which is particularly important given the high level of pupil mobility. Bell Lane is a lead school for Restorative Justice, an approach to building relationships and resolving conflict. Over twenty members of staff have been trained in the approach, which is used across the school.

With a history of over 100 years in the area, Bell Lane is very much a community school. Parents and local volunteers help in the classes, we support and contribute to local events, and speakers from local organisations and faith
communities contribute to the curriculum. The Children’s Centre, which began its activities in January 2008, adds an exciting new dimension to this tradition. The school belongs to Barnet’s Excellence Cluster, a group of schools which
receive additional funding targeted to address the needs of pupils
