Job overview

“All your staff have very high expectations and their enthusiasm and dedication are infectious...staff and pupils are striving to achieve even greater success.” (Ofsted Nov 2016)

Following the promotion of one of our senior leaders, Penwortham Primary School is looking to appoint a new Deputy Headteacher.

Above all else, the following are the five key professional attributes that we are looking for in the person we appoint:

· Concern for excellence and demonstration of a high degree of attention to detail

· Decisiveness, consistency and a focus on solutions

· Resilience and conviction when trying to achieve the best outcomes

· A positive and optimistic outlook; ready to embrace innovation

· Ready to engage in collaborative partnership working, within and beyond the school

Penwortham Primary School is a single-form entry community Primary School with 205 pupils on roll.  Our school has wonderful pupils, an extremely supportive staff team, excellent resources and very high standards and expectations. The school was last Ofsted inspected on the 29th November 2016 and we were delighted that the HMI agreed with our evaluation of the high quality of educational experience that we offer.

This is a Deputy Headteacher post. The successful applicant will work within the school’s Senior Leadership Team to both maintain and further develop all aspects of the school’s provision, achieving the best possible outcomes for each and every pupil.

The post will provide the successful applicant with significant opportunities to lead. Sufficient time will be provided to enable effective leadership activity to take place. It is critical and central to the role that applicants are highly effective teachers who are able to model good practice and support colleagues. The proportion of direct class teaching time will vary, in response to the school’s key priorities over time. This will be discussed in further detail as part of the appointment process. The successful candidate will be required to deputise for the Headteacher in their absence.

The successful applicant will become the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school and will be a Key Stage Leader. Other key leadership strands will be allocated in line with the needs of the school development plan and the strengths of the person – these will of course vary over time.

All staff at this school make the education and welfare of our pupils their first concerns and are accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct. The successful candidate will be required to act with honesty and integrity, have transferable skills, be self-critical and be highly effective at forging positive professional relationships.

Ideally, the successful applicant will be available to take up the post on 1st May 2018, however the governing body would be willing to delay this until 1st September 2018 for the right candidate. This will be discussed at the appropriate point – an inability to begin on 1st May 2018 should not be taken as a reason not to apply for this wonderful opportunity.

Penwortham Primary is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

We believe that visits to the school prior to application essential for this senior post. To arrange a visit please contact the School Bursar, Mrs Julie Cullen, on 01772 743321
