Job overview

About the role

The British International School of Kuala Lumpur seeks a dedicated STEAM technician to support the school’s STEAM curriculum delivery and create the very best learning experiences for our children.

At BSKL we deliver a truly ambitious, world class curriculum. We expect a lot from our staff but we also put them in the best possible position to succeed. This means that all Key Stage 2 class teachers have their own class and are the main pastoral support for their children. They deliver Positive Education, reading, writing and maths to their own class but then they specialise in one particular area of the curriculum: be that STEAM (Science, technology, Engineering and Maths) or Humanities & Art so that more pupils get access to teachers with excellent subject knowledge in particular areas of the curriculum.

Successful candidates will be part of a school that is at the forefront of STEAM education, both in terms of ambition and in terms of resourcing available. We have fully equipped, separate labs for science, computing and design technology. We believe that through high quality teaching every single pupil can develop a love for STEAM subjects. As our Primary STEAM Technician, you will have a demonstrable background in Science and/or technology and be able to maintain, resource and prepare our STEAM facilities (Design Technology, Computing and Science Labs) for teaching. S

In this role you’ll know you’ll know how to source, purchase and maintain equipment effectively, and ensure lesson resources are prepared in a timely fashion. You will communicate confidently across diverse audiences and situations to build strong relationships with staff, parents and children. You’ll model the school’s values: be kind; be resilient; take risks; act with integrity and to be ambitious.

Please see the detailed job description for additional information about this role.

History and Ethos

The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) is one of the leading international schools in Kuala Lumpur offering contemporary British international education to students from Pre-Nursery through to Sixth Form (ages  2-18). Since opening in 2009, BSKL has become the school of choice for expatriate and Malaysian parents looking to provide their children with highest levels of education.

The school is now part of Nord Anglia Education, the world’s leading premium schools organisation. We are a family of 54 international schools, boarding schools and private schools located in 24 countries around the world.

BSKL has been graded as excellent in all areas of educational provision by the Independent Schools Inspectorate and was one of the first schools in Asia to receive the COBIS Patron’s Accreditation. Our recent academic results are comparable to that of top UK independent schools and unprecedented in Malaysia, with 82% of last year's (I)GCSE students achieving A*-A.

Location and Facilities

The school  is located in the neighbourhood of Bandar Utama, an attractive suburb about 25 minutes from the central business district.

BSKL has three visually arresting campuses - Lower, Junior and Secondary - providing a range of excellent learning environments, including a 9-a-side covered sports field, three indoor sport halls, two swimming pools, two full-size football fields and a fully equipped 650-seat theatre. The classrooms and specialist spaces are open and light and contribute to a vibrant, modern environment where exhilarating learning can take place.

In August 2016 a superb new Secondary campus opened incorporating the latest ideas and up-to-date features such as a 3D printing room and creative breakout spaces.  The campus feels like a modern workplace, preparing students for university and future employment.

Career Development and Benefits

A career with BSKL offers all the opportunities associated with a dynamic, global organisation. We offer an excellent salary and benefits package, including housing, international medical cover, annual flights, relocation allowance and bursaries for accompanying children.

We also provide fantastic learning and continuing professional development opportunities, both within the school and across Nord Anglia Education.

The Future

In September 2016 we welcomed our first A Level cohort, providing our pupils with the opportunities to attend top universities around the world. In an increasingly competitive market, BSKL continues to strengthen its ambition of being the region’s most respected and highest achieving school.
