Job overview
We are looking for an excellent practitioner who has a track record of good and outstanding teaching and excellent outcomes. We are seeking a teacher who is an excellent team member and could be a key player in contributing to the success of MAP; the successful candidate must be able to evidence skills at a high level and demonstrate the ability to use strategies which work toward raising standards.
Plymouth evolved as a city because of the sea, and its future prosperity depends on it. This is why the very first ‘marine’ academy has been opened here. Science, technology, art and sport are all integral to Plymouth and to Marine Academy Plymouth. We are the UK’s first specialist marine academy; a state-funded specialist secondary school with three sponsors (Plymouth University, Cornwall College and Plymouth City Council) who enable us to provide fantastic opportunities for our students. Marine Academy Plymouth is now an all-through school incorporating a nursery, primary school, secondary school and sixth form. Our primary school was recently rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
We are looking for a person who has experience in teaching Food and Nutrition, although this post may involve teaching some Design and Technology as well as Art and Design.

About Marine Academy
The Marine Academy Plymouth is not your average kind of academy. We aim to deliver for all learners, to the very highest degree, all the conventional outcomes of education and the Every Child Matters agenda too. Alongside this fundamental aim is our commitment to respecting, relating to and learning from through the environment and in particular the marine environment, which of course represents the heritage of this great city.
The Academy is sponsored by the University of Plymouth, with its world class marine science reputation, along with co-sponsors Cornwall College and Plymouth City Council. The Academy opened in September 2010 on the existing site of Tamarside Community College, but has undergone a major building re-development which now offers state-of-the art facilities.
The aim is to transform education for Plymouth in general and for the school’s community and locality in particular. This will be achieved through a commitment to foundational academic achievement combined with the development of enterprise skills, communication skills and entrepreneurialism, all using environmental and marine themes and the multiple environments in the South West of tourism, leisure, recreation and maritime engineering.
