Therfield is a mixed 11-18 Community School where “There are strong relationships between staff and pupils that underpin a positive atmosphere in which pupils want to learn…[pupils] work well together and are confident to express their ideas…The school is characterised by a nurturing and caring ethos.”  Ofsted 2019.

Our School Vision and Aims reflect our ethos, which is to strive for the highest possible academic standards in an environment of exciting learning opportunities, where individuals can develop their talents in safe and friendly surroundings. These aims are reflected in our ethos of “The Best for All: Excellence, Leadership, Opportunity” and are underpinned by The Therfield Way; A Culture of Achievement.  Leadership development for staff and students is a key focus of the school and we have a highly positive reputation for staff development.

The right candidate will contribute to the teaching of either Computing or Business, or both, and will have the strategic vision to take each of these areas, plus the wider Careers education programme, forward in conjunction with their team.

Computing and IT

A dynamic and collegiate team provides a popular subject area covering Computing, and ICT.  The Department aims to be flexible in its approach and has certainly experienced a significant degree of change in recent years - characterised both by expansion and innovation.  Examination results have been very good in recent years and new team members with ideas and an innovative approach are welcomed to help continue this success.  The team is forward thinking and delivers a strong Computing curriculum to KS3.  The department area is a popular choice at KS4 with groups for Computer Science and IT related courses.  Computing and IT are part of the curriculum offer at KS5 and have continued to grow as an option.

Business and Economics

The team delivers a wide range of courses including GCSE Business, Level 3 BTEC Business, and A Level Economics and provides staff with opportunities to both specialise and experience teaching on a variety of courses.  The team is made up of subject specialists as well as colleagues where this is their second subject.  Results have shown improvement over recent years and there is a supportive atmosphere amongst colleagues.

Careers and Enterprise

This area is supported by contacts at the Careers & Enterprise Company and we have very positive outcomes against the Gatsby Benchmarks (Compass tool).  We have strong links with local businesses through the Leatherhead Responsible Business Network – involving and lead by national/international employers based in the local area working solely with Therfield School – as well as other large local company links.  We have close links with these businesses and use these to enrich our teaching.  Each year we run events such as ‘Dragon’s Den’, Year 7 Business Games, a large Careers Fair, apprenticeship links, as well as subject specific, targeted, in-class sessions with subject experts.  We are very keen on developing these industry links and integrating these into our teaching and learning.

Attributes and Experience.

• An enthusiastic and motivated teacher with a record of outstanding classroom practice

• Experience of teaching one or more of Computing at GCSE/KS5 or Business Studies at KS4 or higher.

• A proven leader able to work on many fronts and to work with and through colleagues.

• A strong team player with an eagerness to innovate with drive and determination

• Experience of creating and fostering links with links outside of school to support the curriculum.

• All staff are expected to be a tutor as we see this as a vital part of promoting student progress.

• A commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for all young people to develop the character and resilience they need to succeed in modern Britain.
