Set in the South Atlantic, you will find the dramatically beautiful Falkland Islands. Here great value is placed on education by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG), parents, students and the community as a whole. The Falkland Islands Government is now seeking to appoint a new Director of Education to take forward the development of the Islands’ education and lifelong learning remit.
Responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Education Directorate, the postholder will lead a dedicated team of around 110 staff to ensure the Government meets its legal and statutory obligations in regard to the department’s service deliverables. The postholder will also be responsible for raising awareness of (and creating) educational opportunities for learners spanning the spectrum starting at nursery level through to higher education and beyond.
The post calls for a strategically and tactically astute professional with a pragmatic and practical approach to leadership and decision making. Building on the excellent work of the current postholder, you will drive forward the strategies, plans and practical measures that have helped secure the sound platform on which we now operate.
We are seeking a positive role model to others who is educated to at least first degree level, (or equivalent) and who holds professional qualifications in a relevant field. In addition, you will have substantial recent, relevant experience at senior management level in a comparable role, ideally within a UK based Local Education Authority. You will also be an experienced financial planner with responsibilities for substantial budgets and have a proven track record of implementing change management and improvement programmes that deliver real ‘Value for Money’.
If you have the professional drive, initiative and resilience to succeed in a unique and challenging role and your ambitions and abilities match what we are looking for, then we would like to hear from you.
