Job overview

The Pilgrims’ School is a leading, selective, day and boarding boys’ prep and double choir school, in a beautiful and historic ‘city meets country’ setting in Winchester. It is a vibrant, lively school where boys aged 4 to 13 are encouraged to find their passions and nurture them, whether that be in the classroom, science lab, music room, art room, sports fields, at Forest School or beyond.

Nestled between Winchester Cathedral, Winchester College, and Wolvesey Palace, the School occupies a superb site in the historic Cathedral Close. We enjoy the use of the picturesque Wolvesey playing fields and the sporting facilities of Winchester College. With our choral foundations, the School encourages musical achievement in all its pupils, but also excels in academic endeavour, sport and the arts.

The Governors are now seeking to appoint a strong commercial and strategic individual as Director of Finance and Resources (DFR).

This appointment will play a key role within the Senior Management Team taking responsibility for the effective leadership and management of all non-academic functions within the School.

The reporting line for the DFR is to the Headmaster and, as Clerk to the Governors, to the Chair of Governors for the discharge of the governing body’s duties. The DFR will also be expected to liaise as required with the Chapter and staff of Winchester Cathedral and the Headmaster and staff of Winchester College.

This is a full time, all-year-round position (52 weeks) working Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend duties for special events.

In order to apply for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate excellent proven leadership, general operational management and strong financial ability.

Prior experience in the education sector is not a prerequisite and applications are encouraged from candidates with commercial, charitable and public-sector backgrounds.
