Job overview

Gresham’s is situated in the Georgian town of Holt and sits within 200 acres of glorious countryside. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and with the Norfolk Broads and the North Norfolk Coast just a few miles away.

At Gresham’s we recognise that every child has different strengths and talents and we pride ourselves on recruiting staff who can bring out each child’s true potential.

We are currently looking for a committed, hardworking and inspirational individual to join our School as Director of Hockey. The successful candidate will have sole responsibility for continually developing a strong hockey programme, which caters for all abilities and maximises player potential. Reporting to the Director of Sport, the Director of Hockey will be required to have a recognised England Hockey coaching qualification, or International equivalent, and a distinguished pedigree of playing and/or coaching at National League level.

There is no requirement for the successful candidate to be a qualified teacher but the position would particularly suit an individual who is seeking a challenge and career development in sports management or coaching.

The School has both boarding and day pupils and runs an extended school day and a vast range of sporting and co-curricular opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to the extensive co-curricular life of the school and it is vital that he or she embraces the holistic nature of the school’s approach and our commitment to providing a broad and far reaching educational experience for our pupils. A sense of humour, a readiness to laugh a lot and enjoy working here is very important.

About Gresham's School

Gresham’s is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 2-18. It is situated in the Georgian town of Holt in beautiful countryside, just three miles from the breathtaking North Norfolk coast.

The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who forged close ties with The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. On his death, he left the school in their care and strong links with them and the City of London remain to this day.

The school enjoys a generous campus with excellent facilities including a state-of-the-art music building (Britten) with its own recording studio, indoor and outdoor performance spaces including a theatre (Auden), multi-surface sports pitches, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports hall and shooting range. The Dyson Building opened at Gresham’s in September 2021. Sir James Dyson, a former pupil at the school, enabled the innovative new centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education.

The school has an impressive list of Old Greshamians including the composer Benjamin Britten, the poet WH Auden, Oscar winning actress Olivia Colman and international rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs, to name but a few.
