Rugby Free Secondary School opened in 2016 and has just moved into a brand-new purpose-built facility. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it is a school committed to providing success for all of its students and providing a workplace that supports its staff to ensure they are able to work to the best of their ability for our students every day. You won’t find teachers and staff anywhere else who are as committed to a school’s purpose and supporting its success.

We are currently graded as inadequate by Ofsted (May 2019) but on our first monitoring visit (December 2019) and then again in February 2021, it was recognised just how much the school has improved in such a short space of time. Our aim is to be at least ‘good’ by December 2021.

Duties

Teaching and Learning and Assessment  

  • To create opportunities to continue to improve subject pedagogy within the faculty through moderation, training, collaborative planning  
  • To monitor the quality of Teaching and Learning in the faculty, conducting learning walks, work scrutiny and lesson observations when required   
  • To develop and quality assure the Schemes of Learning, resources and assessments in the faculty and ensure they incorporate whole school priorities such as SMSC and CEIAG 

Curriculum Development  

  • To lead on the writing of the Digital Communication Curriculum from KS3 – KS5. This will include Curriculum Overviews, Roadmaps and SoL Implementation plans.  
  • To lead and a Digital Literacy curriculum across the school ensuring students are  
  • Effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the curriculum area 
  • To ensure that the qualifications and specifications in the faculty reflect the needs of students and the aims and objectives of the school. Lead Faculty CPD around this. 
  • To work with SLT in order to Quality Assure Curriculum Intent and Implementation
  • To meet with SLT and other appropriate persons to review the Curriculum Impact and identify next steps
  • To  create student enrichment opportunities in the faculty and monitor the impact

Outcomes for students 

  • To manage, analyse and evaluate all relevant available data in order to set targets for individual students and for the various subject teams 
  • To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress 
  • To ensure that effective intervention is put in place for students who are underachieving 

Leadership and Management 

  • To participate in the interview process for teaching posts when required and to ensure effective induction of new staff in line with school procedures 
  • To develop others through the appraisal process 
  • To ensure that the faculty quality assurance procedures meet the requirements of Self Evaluation and the School Improvement Plan 
  • To ensure that all relevant policies are adhered to within the faculty such as Marking and Feedback, Assessment and Behaviour  
  • To be responsible for the development of trainee’s/NQT in the faculty  
  • To participate in and lead CPD  
  • To work collaboratively with other Senior Middle Leaders to further drive improvement  
  • To celebrate success within the faculty and create opportunities for showcasing excellence

This is also the case with our teaching staff, who continuously develop and update their own pedagogical practices, through Action Research projects and other bespoke professional development sessions.
