This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the Science Learning Area in a forward thinking and successful comprehensive school with around 400 students. We are one of the most improved schools in Flintshire this year, as well as being in the top 25% of schools for GCSE performance.  St. David’s High School is a non-selective 11-16 comprehensive school situated just ten minutes from the centre of the beautiful city of Chester.  Many of our staff travel from the Wirral, Chester and North Wales.

We are looking for an outstanding Director of Learning for Science with a commitment to academic excellence and helping every child succeed, who will be responsible for leading teaching and learning in this subject. This is perfect opportunity for an ambitious practitioner who is ready to progress their career into a leadership position or for an experienced colleague who would like to take on a new challenge.  Our teachers are highly effective at diagnosing individual students’ strengths and weaknesses and targeted intervention, rooted in data analysis.

The new Director of Learning for Science will be fully supported by a Senior Assistant Head Teacher (also a Science specialist). There will be plenty of scope for you to develop your leadership skills at a really exciting time for the school, including an opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team in an associate capacity in the future.

St. David's is a forward looking and caring mixed comprehensive school situated on the Welsh/English border on the outskirts of Chester.  There are currently 330 students on roll.  We are committed to ensuring every child at the school achieves their potential and aims "To be the best we can be, everyday".

The school first opened as a co-educational secondary modern in November 1954. It was a response to increasing numbers of children in the area needing educational provision. It changed its name from Saltney Secondary Modern to St David’s High School in September 1967. The school Speech/Prize day was held for the first time in March 1956.

Values and Vision

The St David’s motto is “to be the best we can be, everyday.” It aims to educate children in a way that helps them develop into confident, independent and articulate learners who are ready for a future in the modern world. A small size helps give a feeling of community that the school prides itself on.

Estyn

“The school has useful strategies in place to develop pupils’ literacy skills. In the majority of lessons, most pupils make sound progress. Many pupils develop their information and communications technology (ICT) skills well in many subjects across the curriculum. Many pupils display positive attitudes to learning and engage productively in lessons. In a short period of time, the headteacher has communicated successfully his vision for the school and gained the confidence of staff, pupils, parents and governors.”
