Job overview

Director of Mathematics – Accrington Academy

Accrington Academy is part of United Learning, a successful national group of independent schools and academies which share a mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care.

Accrington Academy has a strong local reputation and has been oversubscribed for several years. We are a successful school, with expanding 11-18 provision, and the majority of students spend their entire journey with us. United Learning is ambitious for the school as it builds on its strengths in line with our Framework for Excellence: promoting the best in everyone, powerful knowledge, education with character, leadership in every role and continuous improvement.

We are looking for an experienced individual who has a proven track record of outstanding departmental leadership and can demonstrate significant impacts in this core subject area. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead our thriving Mathematics Department which consists of 9 teachers.

As Director of Mathematics, you will be an outstanding teacher and leader. You will understand what makes first-rate educational provision and demonstrate a clear commitment to the school and its wider community. Your experience and enthusiasm for education will inspire and challenge the teams you work with.

In Mathematics our curriculum and resources promote and emphasise the need for mathematical fluency.  We have an extensive homework policy that incorporates Hegarty Maths at KS3 and KS4.  Due to the popularity of Mathematics at KS5, experience of A-level delivery would be advantageous.

This is the perfect opportunity to work in a forward-thinking department and school. If you would like to see more, then please contact us and we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit.

We are a popular, vibrant and successful 11-18, non-selective school. Our motto as part of the UL family of academies is “The Best in Everyone”.

In March 2015 OFSTED identified that we were a ‘good’ school. The cornerstone of our success is that students enjoy school.  “Students’ attitudes to learning are positive. Students want to do well at the academy”.  – OFSTED MARCH 2015

We have developed a culture of “hard work” and “dedication” from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and everyone is proud to belong to Accrington Academy.

We believe that everyone at the academy can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We do this by instilling the following values in all our students:

  • Ambition
  • Determination to succeed
  • Respect for others, ourselves and the environment we live and work in
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
