John Leggott College is a successful (OFSTED Grade 2 ‘Good’) 16-19 Sixth Form College, located on a busy but pleasant site in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. The College is just ten minutes from the M180 which is fed directly from the M18 and then the M1 – you’d be able to commute here quite easily from most of the towns and conurbations in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including Pontefract, Doncaster, Sheffield, Grimsby, Lincoln and Hull. The college was confirmed as ‘Good’ in May 2018 and the Department for Education has affirmed we are also in solidly ‘Good’ financial health.

This is a vital appointment for our award-winning College. Reporting directly to the Principal, the role will be to coordinate the key support functions of the college - Human Resources, ICT, Management Information Services, Health and Safety, Estates, Marketing & Recruitment, and Student Services,  and to ensure cohesion between those different support areas, so helping us provide the best education for our learners.

We are therefore looking for a well-qualified and skilled manager, not necessarily with an education-sector background, to become our new Director of Operations, to lead and manage the operation of our organisation. We’d especially like to hear from candidates confident of their ability to lead Human Resource Teams and/or Management Information Systems.

The role of Director of Operations will be varied, demanding, and rewarding.  It is to ensure that our key support functions are cohesive, well-led, well-managed, and that the College business is well-run.  You will be the strategic lead for the support staff and managers in those areas listed above, working logically - but with pace, coordinating the efforts of our support teams with a strong focus on student outcomes. You will be a leader who can get others on board and help everyone achieve their best, recognising where we can improve, and you will be confident and consistent at putting students, their welfare, and their education first.

Being part of the Venn Group (an affiliation of five Sixth Form Colleges in our local area)  is also a real positive as it enables the successful post holder to call upon other Operations Directors/Managers in nearby Colleges, to share ideas, solve problems, practice techniques and support one another.

We offer:

  • An exciting post in a dynamic and growing organisation serving local communities
  • The opportunity to shape and develop services that make a real difference to the lives of children and young people
  • The challenge and stimulation of working alongside both dedicated educationalists and professionally highly qualified colleagues
  • Experienced and capable support service managers, across the College, who will become your team
  • Generous annual leave entitlements and pension scheme (details available on request)

The closing date for applications is Monday 22nd June at 11pm.

Interviews will probably be held during week commencing 29th June 2020.

John Leggott College has a strong commitment to Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. Successful candidates will be subjected to enhanced checks by the Disclosure & Barring Service.
