A partnership between Heriot Watt University and the Directors of Education in Scotland; SCHOLAR is a major national programme delivering e-learning content and support for mathematics, science, technology, business and languages to the secondary and tertiary sectors for over 140,000 learners and teachers in Scotland. Already providing services to all local authorities and virtually all of the independent secondary schools, plus a number of FE Colleges SCHOLAR is the pre-eminent provider of e-learning and is well-placed to expand its operations into new markets as educational technology develops further.

Due to the impending retirement of the current Head of SCHOLAR, the University is seeking to appoint an inspirational leader at a pivotal point in the programme’s development. The post-holder will provide executive and academic leadership of a team of highly skilled specialist educators and professionals generating c£1.5 million for the University. Reporting to the SCHOLAR Forum Management Board the post-holder will be responsible for effective account management of existing contracts and for developing a progressive business strategy that explores and cultivates both national and international opportunities. Managing the professional and administrative functions of SCHOLAR you will have full executive responsibility for all associated staffing and financial operations in supporting the corporate objectives of both the University and SCHOLAR.

With a detailed understanding of secondary education and preferably an experienced educator with management experience you will have a proven track-record of leadership, client relationship management, a strategic outlook and excellent business acumen. With a deep understanding of e-learning and solutions-driven you will also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a high profile, quality driven and extremely successful organisation with an outstanding reputation.
