Job overview

Tes is supporting this High School in Sutton in the appointment of an efficient, engaging, motivated and passionate leader to develop and drive forward provision for sport across the 3-18 age range in our busy and thriving school.

The successful candidate will have experience of academic PE, which is offered up to A Level, with an excellent record of pupil results, and will feel ready to lead an exceptional department in a school where pupils are motivated, well-behaved and keen to learn.

Co-curricular sport at the School is both inclusive and wide-ranging, with over 30 clubs per week (though there is no Saturday sport).

The department is the largest in the school, and also incorporates Dance. An Elite Sportswoman/Scholars programme develops the top performers, and results for cricket, tennis, hockey and swimming are excellent. Sport is well-resourced and has superb uptake across the age range.

You will have the organisational skills and drive to shape the vision for Sport, both academically and practically, inside and outside the classroom, ensuring it remains as one of the most successful and popular subjects.

You will have care for the pupils, and love for the subject, so that you can inspire and enthuse the girls to be fit for life, healthy and active.

You will be logistically minded, able to schedule, manage a team of 8 staff and plan a comprehensive programme.

This role would suit an experienced teacher or current Head of Department. As a Head of Department, you will have a generous time allowance for leadership and to account for co-curricular activities, teaching 22 out of 40 periods per week, with a flexible afternoon or morning where working from home is enabled.

Employee benefits include:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • 35-week school year (including INSET days) across 3 terms with a two-week break in the Autumn
  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Training grants for qualifications
  • Free life assurance benefit
  • Free lunches for all staff during term time (equivalent to at least £740 per year)
  • Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans
  • A Cycle to Work scheme
  • Good transport links
  • Competitive terms and conditions of employment

All applicants need to have the Right to Work in the UK to be considered for the role.
