Director of Studies

Huili School Hangzhou


OBJECTIVES

The Director of Studies will be responsible for all aspects of Teaching and Learning in the Grade 9 and make 3-years curriculum plan for Senior High School(Grade 10-12). 

The DoS will liaise with the head and deputy head of Junior school (or equivalent), particularly regarding the disposition of any staff with full school responsibilities and the transition from the JS Curriculum to the SS Curriculum, as well as maintain a whole-school overview of the assessment data held by the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management of the Curriculum

1. Keep up to date with international curriculum developments and advise on the most suitable curricula to follow at various levels.

2. Determine the balance of the curriculum at each level.

3. Draw up a timetable each year, update it as necessary and publish it.

Staffing

1. Advise on the staffing requirements necessary to run the curriculum.

2. Draw up academic staff job descriptions as required.

3. Assist on the shortlisting and interviewing of candidates, as required.

Assessment and Reporting

1. Determine the nature of internal assessment.

2. Have an overview of external assessment and developments related to this area. Produce annual reports on Public Examination results for the SLT.

3. Schedule reporting cycles and their management, including the creation and publication of Effort and Attainment Grade Criteria.

4. Track Effort and Attainment Grades (and/or whatever other tracking may be deemed appropriate) and provide appropriate statistics and information to those who require it.

5. Be responsible for what appears on the Parents’ Portal in respect of academic reporting.

6. Identify those performing well and reward them.

7. Identify those performing poorly and instigate remedial action as required.

Entrance Examinations and Setting

1. Determine the nature of assessment for those is going to enter the Senior High School.

2. Set pupils as necessary (and delegate to departments as appropriate).

Academic Policy 

1. Be responsible for academic policy, discussing with the SSMT where appropriate.

2. Maintain documents relating to academic policy.

3. Maintain areas of the Intranet that display academic policy.

Academic Administration 

1. Be responsible for the maintenance of academic areas on iSAMS (delegating where appropriate). This includes:

a. Lesson Timetable

b. Prep Timetable

c. Rooming

d. Setting

e. Reports and Interims

f. House Points for academic work

g. Internal examination entries and results

2. Be responsible for collating and publishing lists of pupils in compulsory academic After School Activities.

Teaching & Learning and CPD

1. Keep abreast of development in T&L and innovation.

2. Schedule appropriate training as part of the school’s INSET programme.

3. Have an input into the expenditure of the CPD budget in terms of academic CPD.

4. Liaise with the Head of IT (or whoever has the role of promoting the use of IT in Teaching & Learning) over the integration of IT into all areas of the curriculum.
