Full-time Continuing Contract

From its establishment in 1898, bold decisions have guided Crofton House School. Having recently completed the Campus Master Plan - an $80 million capital development program, which created a world-class learning environment - Crofton House is focused on delivering on the priorities outlined in its strategic plan, Beyond Buildings: Extraordinary Possibilities: 2015 - 2025. 

Crofton House is seeking a dynamic Director, Senior School to join Crofton House at this exciting time in the School’s history. Under the leadership of Ena Harrop, Head of School, who joined Crofton House in July 2019, we are undertaking a mid-point review of the strategic plan to ensure the School is ready to meet new challenges and seize new opportunities. This position would play a key role in contributing to this review and continuing to build on our success in educating young women to embrace their ambitions and make a meaningful contribution to society. 

This position is scheduled to start in the summer of 2020.

Responsibilities:

Senior School:

  • Provide inspiring and visionary direction to the School’s academic programs, based on leading-edge educational research, innovation and best pedagogical and curricular practices
  • Identify trends and anticipate developments in the educational landscape and marry vision with strategy to ensure that Crofton House is preparing its students well Set annual goals according to CHS’s strategic plan, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary
  • Lead curriculum development, instructional strategies and assessment to ensure consistent and high-quality programming. 
  • Be the School’s Safe School Coordinator and lead on the development and implementation of policy to ensure a safe and caring environment for students at Crofton House 
  • Develop the Senior School’s professional development program and contribute to the development of the whole school professional development program 
  • Oversee and support Assistant Directors, Senior School in the execution of their roles and responsibilities, including supporting their professional development
  • Oversee the Administrative Assistants, Operations and Senior School, in the execution of their roles and responsibilities, including supporting their professional development
  • Oversee the staffing of the Senior School including monitoring full-time equivalent (FTE) numbers from year-to-year
  • Oversight of budgets related to Senior School operation 
  • Effective communication with Senior School staff 
  • Effective communication with parents on topics related to teaching and learning, student personal development and school culture 
  • Timely response and thorough documentation of issues that arise including that related to students, employee, and parent conduct
  • Be responsible for the inspection and accreditation documentation that pertains to the Senior School 

Leadership Team:

  • Support for initiatives of Directors as they pertain to the Senior School (i.e. surveys, open houses, and budgeting)
  • Contribute to weekly Learning Council and Directors meetings 
  • Support the Head of School through:
  • Acting on initiatives arising from the Head of School’s goals
  • Timely and open communication
  • Current research
  • Information-seeking and problem-solving approach to issues that arise
  • Confidentiality
  • Standing in for the Head as required
  • Contribute to the school's governance, as directed by the Head of School, through participation in Board-related events or community meetings and serving as Head of School, when required
  • Other duties assigned as required

Qualifications/Experience:

  • B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or equivalent 
  • Experience as a senior administrator at the senior school or secondary level
  • Extensive teaching experience at the secondary level
  • An understanding of the expectations of a highly academic environment

  • A passion for girls’ education and an understanding of how to best support the flourishing of adolescent girls 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to ensure the professional growth of faculty and staff
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to inspire trust and confidence in all stakeholders
  • A track record of school improvement 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible and reflective
  • A deep understanding of successful change processes 
  • Strong commitment to continuous  professional development 
  • Strong organizational skills  with excellent attention to detail
  • Previous budgetary experience
