Job overview

Our vision for Marsden Heights is to be the school of choice for our students, a school at the heart of its community. With the second lowest APS in Lancashire, our children need highly effective and reflective practitioners to support us on our journey to outstanding.

This vacancy has been created to support our new developments within EAL. The postholder would be responsible for developing and leading a tailored support programme for those students who enter our school with little or no English. This would be a highly flexible programme as we can have anywhere up to 100 students aged between 11 and 16 joining us throughout the year, coming from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Syria, Lithuania, Romania, Hungary, Spain to name but a few.

EAL students would receive intensive support in developing their English and would access other areas of the curriculum according to need and interests. The expectation is that as students progress they will access less of the EAL core curriculum as their skills develop until they are firmly established within the normal curriculum and timetable.

Having a core curriculum specifically designed for our EAL students with such a highly personalised pathway is a new venture for our team and so would require the successful applicant to understand that they will be part of the team to create and enhance the programme. If you are interested in joining our team and you have the skills and qualities required, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Being a BSF school, we are very well-resourced with Promethian whiteboards, laptops and hand-held devices as well as desktop computers.

Deadline for applications is 12 noon Monday 9th July.

Values and Vision

Marsden Heights describes itself as a learning community, and prides itself on allowing its students to reach ambitious goals, be that academically, personally or socially. There is a focus on helping children develop into independent learners to prepare them for future life as responsible citizens, and on giving pupils a healthy combination of challenges and rewards.

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum. It also makes use of the STAR learning programme, which stands for "solo, team, adventurous and reflective learner", and prepares students for different types of learning.  Marsden Heights believes this kind of creative learning helps students build skills, techniques and disciplines essential for life after, as well as during, school.
