Description St Joseph’s Primary School, Denman is seeking a temporary part time (0.26FTE) EALD Teacher to join the team for 2021.


St Joseph’s Primary School is located in the small, thriving Upper Hunter town of Denman. Our School offers quality Catholic education for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 from the areas of Denman, Martindale, Sandy Hollow, Bureen and Jerrys Plains. Position Requirements Teachers in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives.


The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.

Essential Criteria

• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school;

• Attainment of TESOL Qualifications, working towards or willing to undertake study;

• Experience in implementing effective early literacy strategies with EAL/D students from K – 6;

• Sound knowledge of the ESL Scales and the EAL/D Learning Progressions;

• Sound knowledge of the skills and processes needed to effectively support the literacy needs of young EALD students;

• Employ a range of strategies to support and motivate student learning;

• Empathy with and understanding of the needs of students speaking English as an additional language or dialect;

• Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively as a team to support the literacy and English language skills of EAL/D students.


The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training.

Finishing Date 17/12/2021

Conditions of Employment • Experience in teaching English as a Second Language to newly arrived students in Australia.
