King's College, The British School of Alicante, one of the most sought after British Schools in Spain, is seeking to appoint an inspiring, committed and passionate professional to lead the Early Years Foundation Stage phase of our school. The successful candidate would lead the six EYFS classes (3 nursery and 3 Reception) and a team of six teachers and six teaching assistants. The EYFS leader would report to the Asssistant Head of Primary, lower school.  

This is a newly created poste due to the successful growth and expansion of the Early Years Phase of the school. The post does not involve a class-teacher responsibility, but does have a 60-70% teaching commitment, covering PPA in each of the EYFS classes each week.

Applications welcomed from candidates with experience of senior leadership, particularly in the Early Years, would be welcomed. The position is advertised for a late August 2019 start.

The successful candidate will:

  • be an assertive, dynamic leader with a clear vision and the ability and experience of translating a vision into actions to drive forward the growth and success of an excellent EYFS phase within the school.
  • be able to contrbute to the school development plan and use this as a basis to review and drive the continued success of the EYFS phase.
  • be experienced at performance management of teachers and teaching assistants; working with staff to develop and improve their practice.
  • be effective at using data from a range of sources to prioritise improvements and to have a positive impact on children’s learning, progress and outcomes.
  • be knowledgable about the EYFS framework and able to lead a team of early years staff to ensure best practice.
  • be experienced at working with and managing parents to ensure they are partners in their child’s education.
  • have experience of marketing and admissions procedures to attract children and families to a school/nursery setting.
  • be confident in dealing with and addressing any staff under-performance to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • be competent at organising staffing, maintaining compliance with EYFS ratios, and working to manage the timetable and teaching across the EYFS phase.
  • be an inspiring, creative and passionate teacher whose practice is rooted in Quality First Teaching and will share our belief in the importance of supporting and developing the whole child.
  • have experience of successfully teaching all subjects from the EYFS through to Key Stage Two (this post will have a teaching commitment of around 0.6 - 0.7 FTE each week, covering staff PPA)
  • be excited by the prospect of working a school judged under the BSO framework to be “excellent in all areas” and explain what they can bring to that environment.
  • be committed to working collaboratively with children, parents and peers to achieve the best outcomes possible for every child, regardless of gender, SEND status, home language, etc.
  • be able to adapt teaching methods to support and drive the progress of pupils whose first language may not be English
  • be a dedicated team player, with a “can-do” attitude who contributes positively to the general working environment and have an eagerness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
  • be a reflective practitioner with a keen interest in their own personal and professional development and an enthusiast for participating in CPD and peer learning opportunities.
  • be fluent in English and demonstrate highly articulate spoken, written & technical language.
  • share our strong pastoral ethos and be able to demonstrate a commitment to pastoral care and the crucial role all staff play in developing the “whole” child.
  • support the King’s Group Digital Learning programme by being a Google Certified Educator, or be willing to become one within the first twelve months of employment.
