Position Purpose
The primary role of the Education Assistant is to support the classroom teacher in achieving the best possible education outcomes for the students demonstrating strong support for the vision and ministry of the Catholic school.
A secondary role is to assist in other ways not directly in support of those students, but which assist the class teacher in facilitating the integration process overall, e.g. supervise regular class students while the teacher works with a small group in the classroom.
Essential criteria
• A qualification appropriate to Learning Support, or presently completing relevant qualification.
• Demonstrate a high standard of competency and proficiency in working with children.
• Possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as a team member of the school community.
• Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, and display appropriate initiative, and be motivated
• A special interest in children, and a commitment to the philosophies of the school and children with special needs.
• Readiness to be involved in Program Support Group Meetings.
• Respect confidentiality in all matters concerning the student and school.
Desirable criteria
• Previous experience in an educational setting as a learning support person.

St Joseph’s Primary School is a co-educational Catholic primary school catering to students from kindergarten to Year 6. Located in Wee Waa, in the New England region of North-West New South Wales, St Joseph’s currently has an enrolment of 133 students. St Joseph’s Primary School was established in 1909 by the Sisters of St Joseph, and today it remains on the original site. The school celebrated its centenary, and 100 years of Catholic education in Wee Waa in 2009.

St Joseph’s provides its students with a broad range of facilities to maximise their schooling experience. The school has extensive resources in ICT, including interactive whiteboards and iPads in every classroom, computers and laptops at a ratio of one for every two students. The school has a modern library and well maintained grounds with plenty of spaces for students to play and socialise.
Curriculum
The school adheres to the Board of Studies, Teacher and Educational Standards, NSW syllabuses for Primary Education, as well as implementing curriculum requirements of the Catholic Schools Office Armidale. The Key Learning Areas focused on are English, mathematics, science and technology, HSIE, creative arts and PDHPE. The curriculum is enhance by a number of co-curricular activities that are available to all students from K-6.
