Description

The Director of Schools invites applications from energetic, innovative and contemporary educators to join the Primary Curriculum Team in Teaching & Learning Services.

The Education Officer-Primary Curriculum joins an existing team of two primary curriculum specialists, within the broader Curriculum Team, in supporting primary schools of the Diocese.

The role calls for an experienced, quality educator with the capabilities to support all primary schools.

• The Education Officer – Primary Curriculum aims to:

• Support school communities in the delivery of quality teaching and learning and in use of daily data to guide changes and practice and monitor the effectiveness of improvement strategies

• Work with the Head of Learning and Teaching; Education Officers, and CSO colleagues to lead and support system wide learning improvement priorities within Primary Schools in the Diocese through the provision of appropriate professional development and support

• Support Primary Schools in the implementation of the syllabus within curriculum and assessment requirements.


An initial contract of 2 years (with potential for one further year extension based on system needs) with annual performance reviews conducted during this period.


Position Requirements

Essential Criteria

• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools

• Demonstrated ability to ensure a Catholic perspective across the curriculum

• A four-year trained teacher classification and a minimum of ten years classroom teaching experience

• Sound understanding of current curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements in primary schools with the capacity to provide initiative and leadership in areas of curriculum development and cross curriculum content in syllabi

• Proven student success through effective use of literacy and numeracy data to assess and provide feedback and optimise educational outcomes

• Strong organisational skills with demonstrated ability to support and enhance a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully alongside school colleagues

• Evidence of strong pedagogical and evidence-based practice and experience in designing contemporary and innovative learning opportunities

• Ability to plan and evaluate collaboratively with teachers and to model and share best practice within the school environment and across the system of schools

• Willingness to comply with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy (Category C)


The applicant must provide evidence of the following:

• Four-year trained teacher classification

• NESA Teacher Accreditation

• Working with Children Clearance number


Desirable Criteria

• Particular interest in deepening understandings about the teaching of Mathematics in primary schools

• Experience in a formal leadership position or as a Pedagogical Mentor or Leading Teacher at a primary school

• Post graduate qualifications at Masters level


Commencement: 20/1/21

Finishing Date: 20/12/22

Conditions of Employment: Conditions and salary commensurate with the Education & Professional Officers Agreement Maitland-Newcastle at level 3.1. Internal applicants will have the opportunity to return to their substantive role at the end of the two year period.

The Catholic Schools Office (CSO), is responsible for the leadership, efficient operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 18,000 students in 45 Primary schools, 10 Secondary schools and one K-12 school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
