About Emmaus College - Vermont South Campus

Emmaus College is located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. Established in 1980, it was the first co-educational secondary college in the Archdiocese of Melbourne to form a union of an all-boys school with an all-girls school. It is a co-educational, Catholic college which maintains a 50:50 ratio of girls to boys, totalling approximately 1200 students. The college provides an environment that presents education in a realistic way of preparing young people for the wider community.

Facilities

The college has a unique structure: its main campus houses Years 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 in Vermont South; and, Year 9 takes place in the Burwood Campus. This is a specific curriculum strategy. The college offers a technology-rich environment and many facilities which are less than 10 years old. The new Learning Centre houses languages, a 240-seat lecture theatre, VCAL, education support, psychologists and career support.

Curriculum

Emmaus utilises AusVELS which combines the Australian Curriculum F-10 for English, mathematics, history and science, with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Unique to this college is their Y9@E program which takes place at the Burwood campus and provides students opportunities for innovative and engaging learning throughout Year 9. Individualised learning programmes are offered to students who identify as high-performing, as well as those requiring additional support.

School ethos

Grounded in the Catholic faith, Emmaus College is Christ-centred which provides a caring and supportive environment to its students, as well as caregivers. Their intention is to develop students to their full potential – in all areas of life – through rich and diverse experiences of authentic learning.
