Job Description

Admissions

  • Collaborate with counselors and administration in admissions decisions

Instruction

  • Teach small group Learning Support classes to identified Learning Support students
  • Provide in-class support to high needs Learning Support students in designated classes
  • Plan and co-teach with mainstream classroom teachers to meet the needs of Learning Support students

Assessment

  • May perform some formal/informal assessments of students referred by the Student Support Team.  This may include:
    • The administration and interpretation of standardized achievement assessments
    • The administration of informal assessments used in mainstream classrooms
  • Share evaluation results with parents, relevant teachers, guidance counselors and administrators
  • May coordinate (through case management) referrals to outside professionals; summarize and communicate the results of these evaluations to relevant personnel

Case Management

  • Develop and implement Learning Support Plans (student’s individual goals)
  • Work as a member of the Student Support Team (SST) to identify students with learning needs; this includes attending regular grade level team meetings
  • Provide consistent, relevant communication with families of students with learning needs
  • Arrange SST meetings for students on caseload
  • Maintain electronic and paper files for students on caseload
  • Coordinate transition of Learning Support students to next grade level and incoming elementary school students with identified needs; this may include coordination with counselors regarding class placement
  • Communicate with administration and counselors about student needs and progress as needed

Perform any other duties as assigned

Skills & Requirements

  • Teaching credentials and minimum five years teaching experience
  • Special education teaching experience (desirable)
  • Expertise in certain area(s) of learning disabilities (desirable)
  • Excellent grasp of learning styles, teaching pedagogy, assessment literacy and understanding of development of individual learning plans
  • Positive, productive student advocate
  • Experience in international school setting with elementary school students
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work closely with teams (mainstream teachers, counselors, support teachers, administrators, parents, students) in positive, productive endeavors
  • Dedication to the Vision, Mission and Core Values of ISB
