Become part of the aspirational, Ark Alexandra family and work alongside our dedicated team to spark a passion for learning in our young people which will last a lifetime and raise the expectations of a community. We believe that all our students can achieve excellence, and that they all deserve the very best education in order to secure their place at university or a career of their choice.
We are open to applications from all qualified teachers with an English specialism, whether newly qualified or experienced. At Ark Alexandra, we are committed to promoting flexible working and therefore will also consider flexible or part-time working for this position.
The English Department at Ark Alexandra follows the English Mastery programme at Key Stage 3. Our students study challenging literary heritage texts alongside a structured grammar and Reading for Pleasure programme. At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA syllabus for English Language and English Literature. We are proud of our seven year curriculum map; the skills and knowledge students learn at KS3 and KS4 prepare them for the challenge of A Level English Literature, a popular choice for our Sixth Form students.
The English department is supported by the Ark network English advisor who, along with the Head of Department coaches and co-plans with teachers. We have an “open door” lesson policy which ensures you receive support and we promote peer-to-peer sharing of practice, all designed to help you be the best teacher you can be. Staff at our school work hard and we offer health benefits such as a subsidised gym membership with Freedom Leisure or if you prefer retail therapy, staff discounts via the Ark Rewards scheme.
As an Ark school, Ark Alexandra Academy is part of a network of 37 schools which has a wealth of experienced educators across the group. The development of our staff is one of our top priorities, at every level and in every role. You will have access to twice the number of training days as standard, all designed to meet the needs of our schools and our people. You will also have access to diverse career opportunities meaning you can carve out your own successful career in education, choosing the direction you want to take your career.
