The Trustees are seeking to appoint Enhanced Teaching Assistant for Sedgefield Community College with effect from September 2023.
Would you like to progress your career in a school judged by OFSTED as ‘outstanding’ and named as the North East State Secondary School of the Decade by the Sunday Times, a school where both student achievement and attitudes to learning are amongst the best in the entire North East and Cumbria region? Would you like to develop your practice in a fantastic, recently built school, with its own dedicated Teaching and Learning centre for the sole purpose of promoting excellence in teaching? Would you also like to work in a school that has been designated as one of the twenty-two lead schools in the country in the DfE Behaviour Hubs programme? If the answer to each of these questions is ‘yes’ then Sedgefield Community College could be right for you.
The role of Enhanced Teaching Assistant involves providing effective support to identified individuals and groups of SEN students under the guidance of our SEND Coordinator. This includes working alongside teachers and other professionals helping ensure work programmes are accessible to individuals and that tasks are being completed as intended. In addition, the role requires post holders to take a key role in the delivery of literacy and numeracy developments programmes.
This post may be particularly attractive to those who would like to make a career in teaching and would like to first gain experience in a highly supportive school setting.

Named in the Sunday Times list of the UK's top 50 schools (11 to 16), Sedgefield Community College is now firmly established as one of North England’s consistently highest performing schools, with a reputation for outstanding and creative teaching and learning allied with strong, successful leadership. Whilst we are proud of our reputation as a highly successful school, as measured by its examination performance, we also take immense pride in the reputation we have for developing outstanding teachers and leaders.
In March 2017, Sedgefield was subject to an OFSTED inspection and as a result judged to be outstanding in all respects, however this significant achievement did not signal the end of the school’s commitment to achieving ever improving standards in all aspects of its work, rather it has merely acted as the catalyst for further progress.
Our student's attitudes to learning are excellent, with OFSTED going so far as to describe student conduct as ‘impeccable’. The high standard of care and support we provide our students has over time created a tangible bond between students and staff and as a result relationships between adults and students are such that we can confidently describe our students as welcoming, respectful and thoughtful and Sedgefield as a ‘happy’ school.
Having moved into our stunning new school building in 2011, we recognise how fortunate we are to have such a superb learning environment and the facilities that it provides. Whilst an impressive building does not necessarily equate to an outstanding school it certainly plays its part in supporting the culture of high standards and excellence that permeates everything that we do.
