Job overview

York High School are seeking additional people to join our Exams Team and support the delivery of exams throughout the School. Our invigilators are punctual, reliable with a flexible approach to their work and the interpersonal skills which enable them to relate to students and be comfortable working in a formal environment which can be pressurised.

Working as a team, our Invigilators ensure a calm environment is provided for our students to help them perform at their best. Invigilators will help to make sure the right students are in the right places, provide vital information and ensure that students have all materials and information needed for each exam to ensure Examination Board rules are adhered to. Exams can be amongst the most important and stressful events for our students – it is therefore essential that they are conducted in the right way – our Invigilators are crucial to this process.

Full training will be provided and working hours will be negotiated for each exam period. The main summer exam season is May and June with 2 exam sessions each day (08:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 15:30). Practice exams are November, March and end of June with 3 practice exam sessions each day (08:00 to 11:00, 11:00 to 13:00 and 13:00 to 15:00). There may be ad-hoc exams during the year.

York High is a mixed 11–16 school serving a genuinely comprehensive intake. The last 4 years have seen rapid and sustained change with the school earning a ‘good’ judgement from Ofsted in September 2022. You would be joining a school with a commitment to excellent pastoral care and to maximising the potential of all of our students.
