Your new role

King’s School is currently recruiting for an Exams and Careers Officer to oversee all elements of internal and external examinations, and to support the careers lead with the provision and administration of careers and student destinations. The role will entail working as part of our close knit administrative support team, liaising across support and teaching departments and taking the lead to ensure that exams run smoothly and to JCQ and exam board requirements. In addition, the post holder will work with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and develop careers provision, work experience and school leaver processes. Please see the job description and person specification for further details.

This is an interesting and varied role, and would suit professionals with problem solving and operational experience. The post holder will need to be highly organized, enjoy working with a range of people and comfortable managing a team of invigilators during exam seasons. Applications from experienced Exams and/or Careers Officers are encouraged, but we would also welcome interest from those starting out their professional journey in education if they have the right skillset and motivation. Full Exams Officer training will be provided, and the post holder will have excellent support through our Trust’s Exams Network. There is also scope for the post holder to pursue training and qualification as a Careers Officer in future academic years, depending on their interest and school requirements. Interested applicants are highly encouraged to contact the school for an informal discussion before applying; please find details on how to do this below.

Who are King’s School?

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian School in the Diocese of Chichester. The school opened its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2013. There are currently just over 650 students in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, and a team of over 60 teachers and support staff. In September 2019 the school moved into its new, purpose built site in Hangleton. This was the culmination of six years of hard work and planning, and marked the beginning of an exciting new stage in the school’s development. Our next milestone will be the opening of our Sixth Form in 2023.

The school received its second Ofsted inspection in December 2018 (Section 8 inspection) and retained its rating of good overall with outstanding features, being recommended for an early full Section 5 inspection due to the progress made against the areas for improvement identified in the last Section 5 inspection in 2015. The inspector noted that “Pupils from a range of backgrounds thrive in this highly successful and inclusive school” and praised the School’s leadership team as being “dedicated, determined and ambitious”.

Our work and relationships are based upon the four core Christian values of Love, Forgiveness, Respect and Responsibility and through these we encourage and support every student and member of staff to be the best that they can be.

Values and Vision

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian school, but welcomes staff and students of all faiths or none. Its four core values are love, forgiveness, respect and responsibility, demonstrating its strong upholding of religious values as well as its focus on creating students who are valuable contributors to the modern outside world.

The school's curriculum is strongly centred on English and maths, providing a firm foundation for the other curricular and extracurricular topics that it offers. Its religious studies lessons across all years help to encourage the understanding of Anglican as well as other mainstream Christian traditions.

Ofsted

“Governance is excellent. Governors use their wide-ranging skills to the best advantage of the school. They know where the best teaching resides and provide very effective challenge and support for school leaders. Students’ behaviour around the school and in lessons is [also] excellent. [They] are polite and take pride in their appearance [and] progress is tracked carefully so that effective action is taken to support students at risk of falling behind.” Ofsted 2015

The school had a short Ofsted inspection in December 2018 and maintained its good rating (from June 2015) with a recommendation that the school receives a Section 5 inspection for its next inspection due to marked improvement since 2015.
