 Aurora Caterham Education Centre (CEC):

We’re currently looking for a Family Support & Attendance Co-Ordinator, Deputy DSL.

CEC is a 30-place secondary/post 16 learning centre for young people with ASD and associated SEN, based in the heart of the community in Caterham-on-the-hill, in a brand new state of the art conversion. The centre supports young people aged 11 – 16 who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Autism and related difficulties. We have a team of therapists who both run their own disciplines and work in a multi-disciplinary team.  

We are linked to Aurora Redehall School and share the same Headteacher and Senior Management Team, however each site has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs.

Role Purpose:

To work within our therapy team, supporting the families and students aged 7 to 19 years with ASD and other associated difficulties.  

To promote positive attitudes by students and families towards education and to ensure parents are aware of statutory responsibilities.

To oversee and support strategies to improve attendance, following attendance policy, monitoring school wide attendance data, and working with individual students and their families with regard to attendance issues.

To work in collaboration with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) To follow school safeguarding processes and policies.

To work in collaboration with school staff to develop and share strategies between school/home.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Act as a role model and support the development of supportive relationships between home and school. 
  • To coordinate the effective implementation of the Attendance Policy. 
  • To monitor and report on pupils out of school 
  • To liaise with parents/carers on the Family Support process and early intervention. 
  • To provide Family support training to staff and pupil information through CPD. 
  • To provide therapeutic support to pupils who are struggling to engage with classes or school and staff/families in cooperation with the therapy team with the aim of re-engagement in class. 
  • To track attendance and provide data for SLT and Governors. 
  • To provide data for SLT and Governors with regards to Family Support and early intervention work undertaken. 
  • Ensure that all relevant compliance has been completed

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • A relevant professional qualification or the ability to gain L3 in working with children and young people) 
  • L3 in working with children and young people is highly desirable 
  • Qualifications in psychology or social care would be desirable

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with Children with autism/SEND 
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection 
  • Experience of supporting families and/or adults 
  • Knowledge of support agencies and services within the local area desirable 
  • Good appreciation and knowledge of health and safety, data protection principles and equal opportunities

Skills and Behaviours: 

  • Commitment to the role, the desire to put the child/young person first and treat them as an individual. 
  • Solution and impact focused, decisive and able to stay calm in a crisis/emergency situation. 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal (English). 
  • Be positive and creative in meeting families needs. 
  • Work on your own as well as part of a team 
  • Work collaboratively with other Employees and professionals with good interpersonal skills. 
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
