Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in working for Royal Wootton Bassett Academy. These guidance notes will assist you in completing your application form, which is the first step in our recruitment process.

The Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust (RWBAT) is built around the one word of ‘Excellence.’ Together the Schools strengthen each other, sharing good practice and building capacity for all. Within the MAT we strive to maximise the potential of each person within our community and are absolutely committed to continuous improvement. We value developing the whole person equally to the achievement of academic success. This is a permanent contract subject to successful completion of 6 months’ probation.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy needs an outstanding, motivated and dedicated Female 2nd in PE and Teacher of PE, to join our vibrant and innovative Department with outstanding drive to provide for our pupils.

The ideal candidate will have superb subject knowledge and a passion for teaching PE and working with examination groups in KS4 & 5 and core PE classes across all year groups. The successful candidate would be part of a successful and creative Department and will have opportunities to teach students from Year 7 upwards and students with SEND or on bespoke curriculum pathways. We are always looking to adapt the way we deliver our curriculum and the successful candidate will be at the forefront of leading these developments to ensure the best provision for our pupils. Along with the HOD the 2nd in department will take responsibility for leading and evolving examination courses in both key stage 4 & 5. As a result, experience of exam delivery within Physical Education would be advantageous. In KS4 we are following the Edexcel GCSE course and more recently the OCR Cambridge National Sports Studies course. In KS5 we currently offer the OCR A Level in Physical Education and the Edexcel L3 BTEC Sport. The popularity of our courses and the number on offer demonstrates our drive to provide a variety of opportunities for all pupils to make meaningful progress in our subject. This is complemented by the unique manor in which we deliver our core curriculum from year 7 to 11. Where we emphasis the development of key skills and attributes in physical education not simply the learning of different sports. We are a highly successful department performing well in exam courses, with a reputation locally, regionally and nationally as a top provider of Physical Education.

This is inclusive of an exceptional provision of out of school extra-curricular opportunities for pupils, where our ethos is promoting participation for all through an abundance of different sports and activities. The department is led by an inspiring and experienced Head of Faculty who is complemented by a driven and committed team of outstanding teachers. The successful candidate must have a tenacious drive and commitment to providing the very best for their students and the Academy.

In return we can offer the full benefits of our excellent support and CPD programmes both internally and through Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is an oversubscribed, very successful, reflective and incredibly proud 11-18 school with 1,764 students on roll including 356 students in our very popular and successful Sixth Form. Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is committed to developing ‘Growth Mindsets’ and we would welcome an application from fellow professionals who share this mindset.

In December 2010, the school was awarded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted.  They described our students as “…an absolute delight.” and “in every area of the School they carry out exemplary practice.”  In November 2013, the Academy was again awarded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted where they stated “Around the school, students are polite and courteous to each other, to members of staff and to visitors.  Students listen attentively in lessons, and almost always respond rapidly to teachers’ instructions”.  As far as we are aware, Royal Wootton Bassett is the only school in the country to be awarded this prestigious accolade in succession.

Royal Wootton Bassett is geographically situated in a pleasant location with Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds all within commuting distance.

The Governing Body and staff at the Academy are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share in this commitment.

If you believe you have the experience, vision and drive for this role then we would like to hear from you.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is part of the Ascend Learning Trust and shares a vision based on mutual respect, support and encouragement to bring out the best in people. At RWBA we recognise that the quality of learning, teaching and behaviour are inseparable issues and that the vast majority of our pupils act in a sensible and appropriate manner and have a keen desire to learn.

It is important, however, that positive standards of behaviour are promoted to all in a manner which is easily understood to which pupils, parents and staff all subscribe. Good order and discipline are essential to the provision of high standards of education.

There are two underlying principles behind this policy:
1. An acknowledgement that we all have rights, and that with such rights come responsibilities to ourselves, others
   and the School.
2. To be part of a community in which we treat others as we would wish to be treated.
