Oundle School is one of the country’s leading HMC co-educational boarding and day schools, and enjoys a strong reputation for academic excellence supported by outstanding pastoral care.
To start September 2018 for a fixed term period until December 2018, we are seeking a dynamic and committed classroom teacher who is not only a highly competent Francophile, but who is also able to contribute his/her own particular strengths and skills to the future development of the Department and participate in and contribute to the life of the school as a whole.
French is thriving at Oundle School, and the numbers of pupils studying French are very healthy indeed. Many of our Fifth and Sixth Form pupils take the ‘DELF’ B1, B2 and even the prestigious DALF C1 level, which is undergraduate level and usually taken by adults for professional or academic purposes. Over the last few years, several pupils from our department have also gone on to university (including Cambridge/Oxford) to read French, as well as most of our other languages. As far as results are concerned, it is very rare for a pupil not to achieve at least grade C in any language at GCSE, and around 90% usually achieve A* or A and over 50% an A*. At present, French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Italian follow the CIE IGCSE course. Chinese and Russian follow the Edexcel GCSE course.
In the Sixth Form, we offer the AQA A level in French. Sixth Form linguists have weekly oral lessons with Language Assistants in pairs or individually. Again, results are strong and C grades a rarity with our A* percentage being some way above the MFL average for HMC Schools. At A level/Pre-U there are currently some 35 pupils taking French.
The successful candidate will be qualified to graduate level with a good Degree in a relevant subject. He or she will be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in teaching, with strong subject knowledge, and be able to teach French to A level.
