Job overview

A fantastic opportunity is awaiting you; the chance to lead and inspire a team committed to shaping and teaching a challenging, inspiring Geography curriculum journey from 3 until 18 in an all-through academy.

The Role

King’s Academy Binfield (KAB) is now looking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative Geography Curriculum Lead to play an intrinsic role in our new all-through academy in Bracknell Forest. This teaching post is for the secondary Geography phase, although there are opportunities to work with the primary phases.

The unique aspects of this role are:

  1. Strong focus on teacher development, with subject specific CPD offered to all, as well as Geographical Association membership.
  2. Team planning time included in the timetable.
  3. Collaborative teaching resources fully shared amongst staff, allowing personalisation while reducing workload.
  4. Opportunities to keep shaping the curriculum, including our KS5 offer.
  5. Work in a setting with 1:1 devices, allowing students to extend their geographical learning experiences.
  6. Geography is part of a wider Humanities structure, enhancing collaboration, support & team ethos.
  7. Opportunities to work collaboratively with Geography departments across the wider King’s Academy Group Trust.

The School

Our all-through school opened in a superb new building in September 2018 and we have grown year on year, with the school now operating from Y7 to Y12.

In addition to the secondary phase, we also have two primary phases set across two sites, King’s Academy Binfield (KAB) and King’s Academy Oakwood (KAO).

In September 2024, we will have students from year N to year 6 in primary and year 7 through to year 13.

Our 6th Form is a developing part of the school, so experience of teaching at A Level would be an advantage in an application for this post.

The Department

The Humanities department has a positive presence in the school community, with a committed team of three History teachers, three Geography teachers and one Religion & Worldviews teacher.

Geography lessons are enjoyed by students and it is one of the most popular options at KS4, with a strong uptake at KS5. Students engage well with our broad and aspirational KS1-3.

Applicants

Applicants should be excellent classroom teachers and have the ability to motivate, inspire and lead students to excel, with experience of producing successful outcomes at GCSE and /or A Level being beneficial.

Applicants will either be aspiring or current leaders, with experience of active involvement in team settings and/or specific projects. This role will give you plenty of opportunities to develop your leadership further, with a strong team and support network in place.

Applicants should be passionate about Geography, both curriculum topics and the role of the subject itself.

The successful candidate will be a team player and will get stuck in and involve themselves in the wider aspects of academy life. A genuine commitment to our ‘whatever it takes’ ethos is essential to enable every young person at KAB and KAO to thrive.

Whilst a main scale role initially, there will be increasing opportunities for leadership roles within the academy as the school expands. Potential is as important as experience.

The Trust and Safeguarding

KAB and KAO are part of the King’s Group Academies MAT, led by a team of former and current Ofsted ‘outstanding’ head teachers and Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI). Please note link to King’s Group Academies Vision and Mission –
