We are looking for a dynamic and passionate teacher of Geography and History, with the ability to teach Geography up to Key Stage 5 (KS5), and History at KS3 and KS4 levels.

Purpose of the Role

The post holder will be responsible for teaching Geography and History, with the ability to teach Geography up to Key Stage 5 and History at KS3 and KS4 levels, and to deliver high-quality lessons and support students to achieve their best. The role will also involve working as a Form Tutor in our strong pastoral team, and teaching PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Education).

Roles and Responsibilities

· To plan and prepare curriculum for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils.

· To develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work to ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Geography and History are delivered.

· To monitor and track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals subject to instructions of Head of Department or other senior colleagues.

· To secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, evaluate quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements, and set targets for improvement.

· To ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes.

· To deliver high quality teaching and learning as well as curriculum development across the Key Stages.

· To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in in-service training for this purpose

· Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations.

· Make provision for pupils of differing ability in all subjects.

· Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning

· Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum.

· Create a culture of achievement where students wish to do their best and are rewarded for doing so.

· To perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor and work closely with pastoral team to provide pastoral care and support the wellbeing of all pupils under their care.

· To teach PSHE as part of the pastoral support programme.

· To demonstrate and inspire an enthusiastic and committed approach to extra-curricular activities.

· To participate in meetings which relate to the curriculum and organisation of the school.

· To take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development and improvement plans

· To consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose.

· To participate in professional development and training as required.

· To be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities across the Key Stages.

· To work collaboratively with other members of the school, both within the curriculum and beyond.

· To identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely. This includes off site facilities and school residential trips.

· To develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies. · Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned.

· Undertake cover duties for colleagues as assigned.

· To carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and its pupils as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal.

Person Specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

· A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or a B.Ed.)

· Minimum three years’ experience in a UK School (preferred), or experience teaching internationally for the British curriculum, including GCSEs and A levels

· Experience of teaching Geography across all Key Stages and History at Key Stage 3

· Excellent IT skills

· The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels

· Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language

· A good sense of humour

· Good inter-personal skills

· Enthusiasm that inspires others

· Excellent communication skills

· Positivity and perseverance

· A desire to work in an international school environment
