Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to gain vital experience, receive training, learn new skills and develop your career, playing a key role supporting the delivery of the annual hockey programme at one of the leading schools in the UK.

The post would suit an individual looking for experience in hockey or wider sports coaching within an educational establishment. It would also suit those considering a career in teaching as there will be exposure to pastoral care and some academic lessons.

You will be considered as a full member of the teaching staff and will work closely with the Head of Hockey to perform the following roles:

  • Acting as lead coach for one of the sides and supporting the coaching of other teams run by colleagues
  • Delivering additional one-to-one and small group technical sessions to scholars and other high-level players
  • Taking the lead with organising the capture of video during matches and training, the editing and analysis of this and the delivery of feedback to pupils
  • Umpiring fixtures
  • Accompanying teams to tournaments and pre-season trips
  • Supporting the Head of Hockey with weekly administrative tasks

Successful candidates will be expected to have a background of playing and/or coaching hockey to a high standard. A history of involvement in either a club or university programme would be expected. The role will involve working with pupils across a wide ability range; some of these will be National/International standard and so the knowledge and ability to develop this calibre of player is necessary.

In return, we can offer upskilling, access to coaching programmes (national and internal). We also offer professional CPD to all staff.

About Bradfield College

Founded in 1850 by Thomas Stevens, and set in the village of Bradfield amidst unspoilt Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent schools through its provision of academic excellence and a well-rounded education.

The College welcomes pupils from Britain and overseas; the pupil body numbers approximately 850 pupils, comprising 350 girls and 500 boys from 13 to 18 years of age.

Boys and girls enter Bradfield at 13+ and many more join the College’s popular and vibrant Sixth Form, where they can choose to study either the IB or A Levels. Faulkner’s, a state-of-the-art boarding house, is specially designed to help all girls and boys make a happy and successful transition from prep school (we recruit from more than 70) to senior school; pupils then move into one of 11 senior houses.

We offer an unrivalled sports and activities programme for all our pupils which ensures that every girl and boy has the opportunity to develop valuable skills outside the classroom, wherever their interests lie.
