Job overview

Harris Academy Merton opened in 2006 and serves students from Year 7 to Sixth Form.  In 2008 we achieved a grading of 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, a judgment that was repeated under the more challenging criteria in 2012.  The current student role is 1250, with a planned increase in our Year 7 intake over the next year taking our numbers from 180 to 240 students.   Applications for places greatly exceed the places available. The academy is set in seven acres of land containing six teaching blocks, a sports hall, a full size floodlit all weather pitch plus four full size floodlit tennis courts and our own playing fields, as well as an administration building containing the assembly hall and dining hall. We are favourably located for public transport with good local access to bus, mainline train and underground links, as well as on-site parking for vehicles and bicycles.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our academy site team.  The successful candidate will be responsible, as part of a team, for the maintenance and upkeep of our academy buildings and grounds.  A driving licence is essential.

What we are looking for:

  • A resilient, highly driven and self-motivated person – willing to go the ‘extra mile’
  • The ability to supervise cleaning staff to ensure best service to the academy
  • The ability to work with outside contractors/agencies when working on site
  • Experience of grounds work would be an advantage

Duties will include keeping the academy site in excellent order in terms of assisting with grounds work such as grass cutting/sports pitch care, buildings clean and in good condition, general maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, ladder work, as well as general housekeeping duties such as delivering parcels around the academy, replenishing consumables in toilets.  Ability to work with grounds maintenance machinery, or the willingness to learn, would be an advantage. The responsibilities and working hours above are shared between a team of two Premises Assistants and the Premises Officer.
