An Independent Day School for Boys with a Co-Educational Sixth Form
Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat School is a leading independent day school of 490 boys aged 11 – 16, with a further 270 students in the co-educational Sixth Form. Set in a beautiful country estate of 46 acres of sport fields, grounds and woodlands overlooking the River Thames in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading, we provide a wonderful working environment.
The School employs over 170 staff and offers a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise their full intellectual, physical and creative potential.
We have an opportunity for a professional Groundsperson to join our small and highly motivated Grounds team. You will work closely with the Deputy Head Groundsperson and the Senior Gardener, overseen by the Grounds Manager, focussing primarily on the day-to-day set up and maintenance of the School’s sports pitches and surrounding grounds, and assisting with the planting and maintenance of formal gardens and floral displays around the campus.
Candidates should have experience of sports pitch preparation; be proactive; work with good attention to detail and a high level of enthusiasm. You will be competent in the operation of a wide range of light machinery.
It is desirable that candidates hold a NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf qualification (or equivalent), although practical experience is equally valued. Good plant knowledge will also be helpful for work in our formal gardens.
Applications are also encouraged from candidates who are at the beginning of their professional Groundsperson career.
We offer an excellent pay and benefits package, dependent upon qualifications and experience, including 33 days holiday (plus additional days); pension scheme with 8% employer contribution; and free meals and refreshments on duty.
