We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic Groundsperson to join our facilities team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and care of our school's grounds, ensuring they remain in excellent condition throughout the year. The role is Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance of all school grounds, including mowing, trimming, planting, weeding, and watering
  • Carry out seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, snow and ice removal, and preparation of grounds for different weather conditions
  • Maintain sports fields and pitches to a high standard, ensuring they are safe and ready for use
  • Coppicing of woodlands, preparation of wood for burning
  • Plan and implement seasonal planting and landscaping projects.
  • Assist in the development of eco-friendly and sustainable gardening practices
  • Maintain cleanliness of lake and surrounding area
  • To undertake construction/excavation work using the digger or other machines to take away spoil
  • Full maintenance of synthetic (all-weather) surface including litter clearance, brushing, marking out additional markings
  • To assist contractors whilst on site and to clear any rubbish/unwanted material left behind.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of outdoor events, including sports days, open days, and other school functions
  • Grounds machinery maintenance
  • Garden/tractor sheds, outhouses (cleanliness and contents)
  • Sports equipment (goals, posts, nets, sight screens, pavilions, scoreboards etc)
  • Sweeping paths in summer/gritting in freezing weather
  • Sweeping car parks and Dutch Barn
  • Sweeping Tennis Courts
  • Maintenance of Cricket nets/AWS
  • Preparation for whole school events as necessary
  • To be competent in use of all machinery
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and procedures while performing grounds maintenance tasks


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar role
  • Qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and the use of related equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping machinery and tools
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in groundskeeping
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
