HE & Careers Adviser

Havering Sixth Form College’s award winning careers service, The CUBE is looking for an experienced HE & Careers Adviser to join our established team.  We are looking for an excellent communicator with the ability to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of people and a good team player who will deputise for the Manager in her absence.  The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level and hold a nationally recognised qualification in Careers Guidance and have experience of developing and delivering CEIAG within an education setting.

The Higher Education & Careers Adviser is responsible for providing specialist careers advice to students with particular emphasis on applications to Higher Education as well as advising those who are seeking further training or employment.  An integral part of this role is to support students through the UCAS process by providing individual advice on course choice, entry requirements, student finance and personal statements.  The post-holder will also be responsible for managing Oxbridge applications and supporting students applying for medicine and dentistry.  The role will also involve weekly contact with the Aiming High cohort of students, preparing them for the demands of UCAS applications to universities where competition for places is fierce.

• 36 hours per week, term time only  

 • Temporary post to August 2019 

 • Support staff pay scale:- Band 7   £24,347 full time salary; actual salary £20,646

About Havering Sixth Form College

Havering Sixth Form College is a mixed sixth-form college of more than 2000 students aged 16-19, located in Hornchurch, Essex. First opened in 1991, the college offers courses such as A-levels, BTECs and GCSEs. The college boasts an array of modern facilities, including a dedicated performing arts centre, an athletics hall and a modern gymnasium. 

Havering Sixth Form College provides a bursary for students requiring additional financial support. Each learner has a weekly meeting with a preassigned “coach”, who will offer support and track their progress at the college.

The ethos of the college is primarily based around the notion of self-discipline, with students being given the freedom and flexibility to study on their own terms, with access to additional support should they require it. 

Students have significant input into the way the college is run, with the student council playing a part in decision-making. Havering Sixth Form College aims to properly prepare its young people for higher education or the world of work, with extensive opportunities for students to receive advice about how best to enter their chosen career.
