Job overview

Appointment of Head

The post is offered with an attractive package for the right candidate

An exciting opportunity for a dynamic and inspirational leader for a well established girls’ school near the heart of the county of Cornwall.

Truro High School is Cornwall’s only single-sex school and is ranked number one in the county for A Levels and GCSEs in the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018. With a growing roll of 335 pupils, including 45 boarders, the School brings Preparatory and Senior girls, aged 4-18, together on a green site overlooking the centre of Truro, Cornwall’s historic and beautiful Cathedral City.

Following the appointment of Dr Glenn Moodie to an international headship in Malaysia, the School is looking for a motivated and forward-thinking individual who recognises the benefits of girls only education and will reinforce the School’s belief that ‘happy girls achieve’.

The School’s excellent reputation arises from its balanced focus on both academic achievement and co-curricular development, and it is renowned for having a ‘family feel’ in a twenty-four hour boarding environment in which girls are supported and recognised as individuals.

The pursuit of academic excellence is important at Truro High, as is the enrichment that girls experience through other aspects of their school career, and the Governors wish to maintain this equilibrium. This is important in a county steeped in a history of enterprise and invention and which is now a thriving centre for business innovation as well as offering unrivalled opportunities for leisure and a busy cultural life.

The School actively maintains its cathedral foundation and as a member of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST), the School is able to benefit from the knowledge, support and expertise of MIST’s Trustees and executive officers. There are also regular opportunities for Heads, Bursars, Chairs and others in MIST member schools to share ideas and experiences in a strong and supportive environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with proven experience at senior leadership level to make a mark on a progressive school with tremendous vision and ambition. The successful candidate will value and support the Christian ethos of the School and will enjoy seeking imaginative solutions with the character and personality to inspire, and be inspired.
